Have you been one to save all your past marketing data— from social media calendars to designs as well as your client’s monthly marketing reports? If yes, you should give yourself a pat on the back. If not, it’s never too late to get started.

Digital Marketers need to be able to analyze their data in order to understand how their marketing efforts are working. It’s important to save all of your marketing data so that you can compare your numbers over time. When you’re able to compare how many people opened an email versus how many people clicked on a link within that email or how many people filled out a form on your website after seeing an ad on Facebook versus how many people opened an email based on those benchmarks then you’ll know whether or not your marketing efforts are working.

For example, if you’re sending out 100 emails per week and 10 people open each one, but then the next week when you send out 200 emails per week, 15 people open each one then you know that sending more emails is working because it’s bringing in more opens! But if the next week when you send out 200 emails per week, only 8 people open each one then you know that sending more emails isn’t working because it’s bringing in fewer opens!

Saving marketing data is important because it allows you to see how effective your campaigns have been in the past. Without this information, you wouldn’t know what kinds of messages work best for which audiences or when your audience is most active on social media. It helps save a whole lot of your time, money, and effort that would have otherwise been spent on campaign research.

Lastly, benchmarking previous data can help you understand what types of messages and approaches resonate with your audience—and which ones don’t. For example, if your marketing efforts aren’t generating any clicks or conversions, then maybe it’s time to try something new!
